This is the very first release from Ghostheory. There were previous incarnations of the side-project in the forms of 'Kava Project', 'Sects & Violins', and 'Urbivor'. The music was solidly grounded the dour and depressing Dark Ambient genre with the occasional excursion into (very accidental and unintentional) Martial Industrial. With Ghostheory, the aesthetic shifted away from Dark Ambient and opted for a focus on the intersections of drone, noise, gothic, sound sculptures, ethereal, space music, industrial, and soundscape. The following Ghostheory record, 'The Wailing Wall', released on CD via KultureShift Music in 2007, was far more of a musical, rhythmic, and melodic venture than 'Rain'... which is essentially stream-of-consciousness ethereal ambient noise. 'Rain' was originally composed, recorded, and released through Webbed Hand Records (webbedhandrecords.com
) in 2005 for the 'Rain' series.
From Webbed Hand Records: "Rain is a series of conceptual tracks produced for Webbed Hand Records. Each 'Rain' is a CD-length ambient recording ideal for quiet listening while meditating, writing, or going to sleep. Typically the recordings in this series are minimalistic soundscapes, with motifs played out cyclically rather than progressively, in order to induce relaxed states."
